Enrichment of Vocabulary: Language Related to the Qualities/Names of the Sensorial Materials

Materials:

  • The Sensorial Apparatus 

Purposes:

  • To enlarge the vocabulary 

  • To help in the classification of the environment

  • Indirect preparation for further studies

  • Preparation for reading classification

Age: 2 ½ and up

Preparation:  The child has worked with the Sensorial material

Presentation Description: 

Application 1 Positive Qualities:  Cylinder block #2 Example 

The child will be familiar with and have worked with the material before the language is introduced.  The language for the qualities is given by means of a three-period lesson.  Simple names and positive qualities are introduced first. Cylinder Block #2 would be a lesson on large and small.

Application 2 Superlatives: Cylinder Block #2 Example 

Introduce the superlative vocabulary of the material by means of a three-period lesson. Cylinder Block #2 would be a lesson on largest and smallest

Application 3 Comparative: Cylinder Block #2 Example 

Introduce the comparative qualities of the material by means of a three-period lesson. This vocabulary relates to the two pieces that are together. Cylinder Block #2 would be larger than and smaller than.
