  • Place the note for C in front of the bell.

  • Repeat for the next two.

Second Period

Third Period

**If the child is up to it, you may do three more.

**The next day-review the names of the notes from the prior lesson and try to present the rest.

Control of Error: The sequence of the numbers on the back of the notes should be in order 1-8.

Language: The names of the tones/pitches.  Also, the word “note”

Following Exercises:

  • Associating the Notes and Their Corresponding Bell: Place the notes into a container and take one at random. Play the bell of the note and place the note in front. Do a couple and transfer it to the child.

Memory Games:

  • Distance Game with Bell and Notes:  Ring the bell, place the memory marker, and then go find the note from a faraway table.

Pedagogical Notes:

  • The child should be playing the bell when working with the notes.

  • We are naming the sound (pitch/sound) not the bell.

  • The sensitive period for refinement of the sensory perception is fading at 4 ½, so this work needs to be introduced before then.

  • This lesson begins reading and writing music.

  • The C scale starts and ends in a C. There are no sharps and flats.
